Mrs. Johnnie Mae Dunlap May was born July 26, 1938 to the late John and Helen Dunlap in Fort Mill, York County, South Carolina. She departed this life on Saturday, February 24, 2024 at the age of 85 in her Charlotte, NC home.
Mrs. Johnnie Mae Dunlap May exuded her love and affection for her family throughout her lifetime, alongside her late husband, Robert May. She cared for and nurtured her children, nieces, nephews, neighborhood children, and many more. Through her actions of love and unwavering commitment to impact the lives of others, her family home became and remains a refuge for many. In serving as an indispensable heartbeat, her home was always the place to be. Mrs. Johnnie Mae Dunlap May worked for over 38 years at Aramark Uniform Services formerly known as Carolina Uniform. She received various awards and recognition for her dedication, strong work ethic, and zealous attitude that translated to superior performed work.
She was affectionately known as Sassy and was a staple in her community and church. She was a woman of great faith and had a beautiful relationship with God. Displaying honorary servitude as the National Church Mother and Supervisor of Women. She served as the Matriarch for both the May and Dunlap families. She never hesitated to assist anyone in need and did so selflessly.
Many received soothing comfort for their worries, combined with some of the best cooking you will ever have in your life. She made the best old fashioned hot banana pudding, sweet potato pies, collard greens, pig feet, fried chicken, chitterlings, and a plethora of other great dishes. She made sure to pass her love for cooking and feeding many people in the community and loved ones to her children and grandchildren.
She leaves to cherish her memory one (1) son, Anthony Eric May Sr, two (2) daughters, Teresa Glenn and Robin May, four (4) sisters, Betty Dunlap, Ruby Dunlap, Joann Boyd, and Doll Dunlap, one (1) brother, JW Dunlap, 6 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws. She is preceded in death by her late parents, John and Helen Dunlap, husband, Robert May, two (2) sons Billy Love and Richard May, two (2) sisters, Nancy Dunlap and Eartha McKnight and one (1) brother John Jr. (June) Dunlap.
