Julius Perry, Sr.

December 23, 1932 — April 23, 2022

OBITUARY

Pastor Julius Perry Sr.

Saturday night about 9:25 pm, our loving and merciful God, dispatched an angel to bring home the soul of our beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, and friend, Pastor Julius Perry Sr.

Julius was born on December 23, 1932, in Columbia, South Carolina where he grew up and attended school.

He began his Christian walk at an early age. The Perry  family were members of The United House of Prayer, where his mother made sure he was involved and attended services often. Over the years he held various positions including band leader, Grace Soldier (church military group that required extensive travel), and eventually, the youth pastor, to name a few. After serving a stint in the army he relocated to Norfolk, Virginia.  As a profession, Julius worked as a Brick Mason and was often sought out by contractors because he was a Master of his trade.

Pursuing a job opportunity, Julius relocated to Charlotte, North Carolina. While living there he met and married Beatrice Grier and her daughter Maretta, in 1974. As time marched on, in October 1991, he and Bishop Jerry Grier co-founded the New Direction Christian Center. Soon thereafter he began pastoring with his wife Beatrice. Pastor Perry loved the word of God and was quick to teach and quote Scriptures whenever he could hold your attention.

After a terrible accident, Pastor Perry faced several challenges for over 5 years, but maintained his faith. He could not be heard speaking weakness or claiming anything other than the “victory.”

He was predeceased by his parents Daisy Douglass Bishop and Isaac Perry. He was also predeceased by siblings, Lillie Mae Denley Perry Riley, Eartha Lee Perry, Geraldine Perry/West, Elizabeth Denley Perry and Oscar Denley Perry, and one son, Ronnie Lovell.

Pastor Perry leaves to cherish many memories: four sons, Leonard Perry of Chesapeake, Va; Julius Perry Jr.(Robin) of Jacksonville, Fl. Walter Perry of Lancaster, Pa. and Marvin Perry of Norfolk, Va. Four Daughters: Vernetta Howell , Judith Yates, Missionary Camellia Tomblin, and Ramona Boyd all of Norfolk. One Step daughter: Maretta Thompson (Sandy) and daughter in law, Tina Perry. Fourteen grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren. One niece, Linda Boyce; four nephews, Donald Perry, Lenard Perry, Johnny A. Perry, and Rev. Sam Perry (Paula). Three very dedicated friends to the very end, Sabrina Davis and Jesse Townsend with his wife Venus.
