Kap Johnson

July 12, 1949 — November 18, 2022

Kap Choul Johnson “KC” went to be with the Lord, Friday evening, November 18, 2022 surrounded by family in her home. She was born in Chungcheokdo province, bo-on village, South Korea on July 12, 1949, daughter of Bok soon Yim.

Kap is survived by her four beloved children, Hugh Lee Johnson, Sally Ann Lee, Mary Johnson-Afzal, Tereisa Johnson; as well as her grandchildren, Andrew Johnson, James “Young” Sok, Daniel Sok, Brandon Johnson, Julieann Helms, Safa Nabi Afzal, Justin Johnson, Nicholas, Victoria “Abby”, Quinn.

During Kap’s childhood she could always be found at her mommy’s side assisting her with the household. She could also be found in the garden and learning all of her family recipes she would soon take with her to the States. During her adulthood Kap was known for her hardworking spirit and determination to provide for her family no matter what the cost. She soon met her husband who was stationed in Korea, Larry Joe Johnson and had four beautiful children, first born son and three fun loving daughters. Kap moved to the United States of America over 35 years ago with her children and husband settling in Charlotte, NC.

Kap loved to cook all of her family recipes she learned as a child from her mommy for her family in the States. Kap became the “Master Chef of Kimchi.” No Kimchi in the world could compare to hers. One of her pass times was to watch Korean television dramas. She had many favorites, during her long stay in the hospital that was the one thing she missed her Korean television and Korean politics.

Kap, grandma was known for her love. She wore many hats for each of us, Umma, Halmeoni, Grandma, and Friend. Grandma was a great warrior, many of times she has fought her way just for her babies, in Korea and the States. She would always listen to her kids. Her grands didn’t know much Korean, but no matter, what she was there to lend an ear. Her smile was contagious, she loved to laugh together at the silly people on the TV or how the doctors “wouldn’t come til next year” always bring a laugh and smile wherever she walked.

We rejoice in knowing Kap was greeted by her mommy, grandmother and all her friends whom precede her in death and is most likely sitting down enjoying a bowl of freshly made rice chatting about fond memories.
