Katherine Nixon

There will be a Public Viewing Wednesday, July 8, 2020, from 1 PM until 6:30 PM at Alexander Funeral Home. Funeral Services for Mrs. Nixon will be private due to the nation's health pandemic (Covid 19). The Nixon Family would like to thank everyone for their heartfelt prayers. In lieu of Flowers make donations to Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, 232 Skyland Avenue Charlotte, NC 28205.

Obituary

Katherine Norris Fincher was born in Union County, NC on May 28, 1936 to the late Mr. John Thomas Fincher and Mrs. Nina Barrett Fincher. Mrs. Nixon transitioned from earth to glory on June 30, 2020.
Mrs. Nixon attended the public schools of Union County, NC. She was an avid reader and was especially fond of the spiritual writings of C.S. Lewis and Max Lucado.
Mrs. Nixon confessed Christ as her savior as a child and joined Liberty Hill Missionary Baptist Church of Waxhaw, NC. She later joined Antioch Missionary Baptist Church of Charlotte NC as an adult. Mrs. Nixon was very active in the ministries of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church as long as her health permitted. She held various positions and served on the following boards and organizations; past president of the Parent Body of the Missionary Department and a member of group 1, Sunday school teacher, Senior Usher Board, Hymn Choir, District 3 Missionary Group, Mecklenburg County Union, Church Women United, and the UMBA.
Mrs. Nixon received recognition for 18 years of service as the past State Chaplain of the I.B.P.O.E of the World. She was also a member of the Deborah Chapter 424 OES having held the positions of Ruth, Esther, Trustee, and Warder. She was also a member of the organization's Audit and Hospitality Committee. In addition to those two organizations she was also a member of the Pisgah Temple # 228 of Charlotte, NC.
Mrs. Nixon is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Mr. William James Nixon Sr and a daughter Betty Carrol Fincher. Three brothers Horace Fincher, Bruce Fincher, Harold Fincher, and two sisters Jean Hailey, and Helen Fincher Hudson. A very special aunt and uncle Mrs. Mae Elmer Kilgo and Mr. Charlie Kilgo.
She is survived by her children, Malcolm Nixon (Paula) of Jacksonville, FL, William James Nixon Jr of Charlotte, NC, Eugene A. Nixon (Leah) of Buffalo, NY, Timothy Nixon of Charlotte, NC, Linda Little (Zack) of Charlotte NC, Janet Williams of Charlotte NC, Judy Connor (Ron) of Atlanta, GA, Pat Thompson of Charlotte, NC and Donna Nixon of Charlotte, NC; three sisters Sandra Fincher, Brenda Wingo, and Penelope McCoy, 16 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, a host of other relatives and friends.
