The Life and Legacy of
Kenneth Edward Gaither
Kenneth Edward Gaither—affectionately known as “Papi,” “The Professor,” “Ole’ Man,” “Yogi,” and “Kenny G”—the life of every gathering and a cherished husband, father-figure, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend, entered into eternal rest with his Lord and Savior on November 12, 2025.
Born on October 15, 1955, to Mary Louise Gaither and James Leak, Kenneth grew into a man who never stopped learning. He spent many years working in Computer Network Engineering before joyfully embracing retirement—a chapter he absolutely loved. His passion for education and curiosity about the world around him sparked many deep and meaningful conversations. He took great pride in his achievements as an All-American Scholar and Athlete, a West Point Military Cadet, and an Army Veteran.
Kenneth began his schooling at Bethune Elementary in Charlotte, NC, later transferring to Ivy Street School in New Haven, Connecticut. He graduated from Hillhouse High School in New Haven, where he met the love of his life, his beloved wife, “Trish,” and formed lifelong friendships. From a young age, he had a drive to learn, to lead, and to stand out as a role model for others.
He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Patricia Gaither; his special mother-in-law, Annie Dortch; his sister/daughter, Kareema Gaither; his niece/granddaughter, Destinee Harden; his brother Michael (Mary) Gaither; his sisters Beverly Osabutey, Gail Waller, Jackie Robinson, and JoEllen Mason; along with a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Mary Louise Gaither; his father, James Leak; his brother, Larry Gaither; and his sister, Jaqueline Newsome.
