Lecola Mungo was born on June 5, 1930, to Leroy and Erdell Mungo in Chesterfield, South Carolina. After a life well lived, he peacefully departed this life on May 31, 2025, at his home in Charlotte, North Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings: Joe, Leroy, Sidney, Viola, David, and Maynor Lee; his wife of 25 years, Annie Jean Blakeney Mungo; and children: Bonnie, Janice, and Ronnie.
A graduate of Jefferson High School, Lecola continued his education at Central Piedmont Community College. He worked for 31 years at Merita Bakery and later as a truck driver for Queen’s Florist and Byron Seed Companies.
He was a devoted Christian and active member in several churches throughout his life, serving in many roles including Trustee, Choir President, and Usher Board President. His church home in later years was Ebenezer Baptist Church.
A dedicated member of the Prince Hall Masonic Family, Lecola was raised in Myersville Lodge #687 in 1961. He held numerous distinguished titles including Past Master, Right Eminent Grand Commander, and Past Potentate of Rameses Temple #51. He was known for visiting the sick and supporting fellow Masons with compassion and commitment.
He leaves behind a loving legacy including his children: Annie Lee Douglas (Joe), Sheila Mungo, Lecola Mungo Jr. (Vanessa), and Freddie Mungo (Melissa); 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; two siblings, Curtis and Jeannie Mungo; and a host of extended family and friends who will miss him dearly
