Lester Nash

Lester Nash, the son of the late Fred and Minnie Barber Nash, began his life on May 3, 1948, in Pineville, N.C. Lester was called to his heavenly home on Monday, August 22, 2016, at the Liberty Lane Hospice Center at the VA Medical Center in Salisbury, NC. after a short illness. In addition to his parents, Lester was preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia Nash Brown and Alberta Nash Reed; two brothers – Alfred C. Nash and Henry R. Nash Sr. Lester attended Sterling High school formerly Pineville Colored School for three years. In 1966, he graduated as a member of the first class to integrate South Mecklenburg High School. Lester was well-known for his sense of humor and high IQ. In 1968, he was drafted in the U.S. Army and completed two tours proudly serving his country in the Vietnam War - Unit MDA 67V2F Helicopter Crew Chief OH6A. After the war, Lester earned his college degree and several certifications in Auto Mechanics from Central Piedmont Community College. Lester completed 30 years of service as a Supervisor for Charlotte Mecklenburg School System and retired in 2008. He was a life member of James Chapel Baptist Church in Fort Mill, S.C. where he served as church trustee for numerous years. He served as vice president of the Sterling High School reunion. Lester was a man greatly loved and respected by all those who knew him. He will be dearly missed. Everlasting memories will always be cherished by his faithful wife and caregiver, Eva Givens Nash. Three loving daughters – Leslie Nash, Doris M. Guy (David), and Christina McCoy. Father-in-law, Rev. Leonard Givens. Nine precious grandchildren – Brittany, Braxton, Brandon, Tonye, Kennadi, David Jr, Demica, Briaunna, and Davion. Two brothers: Harry Nash (Deborah), William Nash (Tricia); Three sisters: Mildred McAfee (Willie), Winnie Brailey (James), Susie Nash; Sister-in-laws: Martha Lowery, Annie Poage (Joe), Mary Jenkins (Ernest), Linda Byrd, Annette Givens, Sadie Hooper (Willie) and Mary Nash; Four brother-in-laws: Alvin Reed, Roosevelt Dunham (Gladys), Michael Givens (Judy), Leonard Givens Jr (Dorothy); and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A special thanks to the staff at the Liberty Lane Hospice Center of the VA Medical Center for their wonderful care.
