Lovie Lee Withers, son of the late Samuel Lee Withers and Mary Mayhew Withers, was born on January 20, 1933 in Mt. Mourne, NC. He departed this earthly life on October 20, 2021.
Lovie affectionately called "Brother" by his family and close friends attended Mooresville City Schools. He continued his education at Carver College in Charlotte, NC. In 1960, he was united in holy matrimony to the late Anna Kearns Withers and to this union two children were born.
He was employed at Kraft Dairy Group for over 25 years and worked his way up the ladder and became a supervisor. He hired men who were on the inmate prison release program from Camp Green Prison Camp to help give them a fresh start and would often provide transportation to ensure the men could get to and from work. Lovie also helped men in the Dixie community gain employment at Kraft Foods. Those that knew Lovie knew that he was a homebody who loved his family. You would often find him in his shed listening to Sara Vaughan, Nancy Wilson, Ray Charles and countless others, or you could find him laying on the couch watching his favorite westerns. Lovie was a Veteran and served in the Korean War as a Medic.
During his later years, Lovie enjoyed going to Southview Senior Center where they would have various activities, he would would walk around the track and do exercises. He really enjoyed the lunch meals where the women would spoil him and give him extra cake and sweets. He looked forward to playing Bingo on Fridays and attending holiday Christmas parties at Southview.
Preceding Mr. Withers in death were his wife of 55 years, Anna Kearns Withers and his two sisters, Elizabeth Jones and Bertha Walker.
Left to cherish his memory: one daughter, Carol Summers and one son Winston Withers; three grandsons, Jamaal Holmes, Winston Withers and Jawann Ratcliffe; one granddaughter Darlene Seabrooks; four great-grandchildren, Avianna Withers, Parker Hunt, Avaiden Withers and Avonnis Withers; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
