Lunetta Irene Watson was born on January 2, 1942 to the late John Henry and Fannie Mosley in Charlottesville, VA. She entered into the arms of God, October 13, 2018 unexpectedly at Carolina Medical Center in Charlotte, NC.
Lunetta was a 1960 graduate of Rosenwald High School in Waynesboro, VA where she was active in many school activities. Lunetta was a star basketball player in high school known as “Hook Shot Mosley” one of the greatest female players at the time. After graduating high school she attended and graduated from Shaw University in 1966, where she obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education. After graduation, she started her career as a teacher in Farmville, VA and continued to educate children for 20 years.
In 1976, she met the love of her life, David Watson, and was engaged to him 3 months later. In 1977, they married and this union lasted 41 years. She was a faithful wife and mother to their only daughter, Demetris. The bond that they shared was unbreakable and indescribable.
She accepted Christ as her Savior at Shiloh Baptist Church in Waynesboro, VA, where she served as a faithful member who truly loved the Lord. After moving to Charlotte, Lunetta joined Friendship Missionary Baptist Church and has been a faithful member for 30 years. She was an active member with the senior’s ministry, the black college awareness day committee, and an “honorary” usher. Lunetta served whenever she was called on.
Lunetta was an incredible person and loved spending time with everyone. Family and friends were Lunetta’s passion and delight. She enjoyed cooking, sports, and making memories with her husband, daughter, extended family, and friends. She made friends where ever she was and left a mark on everyone’s life that she came in contact with.
Lunetta is survived by her husband, David Watson, of the residence; one daughter, Demetris Watson, of Suffolk, VA. She was preceded in death by her sister, Jacqueline Walker of Waynesboro, VA. She is also survived by three nieces, Marvella Mattis and Johnetta Mosley of Washington, DC; and Hope Mosley of Waynesboro, VA. She is survived by four brother-in-law’s, Roger Walker of Waynesboro, VA, Cleveland Watson (Linda) of Spring Lake, NC; Claude Watson (Johnny Mae) of Washington, DC; and Tyrone Watson of Durham, NC. Three sister-in-law’s, Julia Heck and Pamela Watson of Sanford, NC and Anna Jackson of Buffalo, NY. Two very special friends Sylvia Hayes and Leslie Thomas of Charlotte, NC. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
