Lydia Victoria Mccullough

March 12, 1956 — January 24, 2021

Lydia Victoria “Vikki” McCullough of Charlotte, beloved sister and friend, was born March 12, 1956, in Covington, Kentucky, and passed away January 24, 2021. She was employed by Wells Fargo as a Business Risk and Control Officer. Before she was a year old, Vikki moved with her family to Florence, South Carolina. By the time she was four, her family had moved to Charlotte. She was always interested in music, and during her time in elementary school, her musical talents were exhibited when she learned to play the flute. She continued to play flute in high school and college marching bands. She graduated from West Mecklenburg High School in 1974. After transferring from Spelman College, she attended Johnson C. Smith University. Vikki absolutely loved children and doted on her godchildren and all children she got to know. In return, children were really attached to her. She enjoyed traveling. At least once a year, she and her sister, Alicia, took a trip to Florida, or somewhere where there was a beach. Being true to her sign, Pisces, she loved the water. Vikki delighted in making the travel arrangements and was very good at it. Vikki loved purple, her signature color. Rooms in her home were painted lavender and purple, and she wore shades of purple most of the time. She had a green thumb and loved plants, which were an ever-present part of her home’s decor. When asked to bring a dish for dinner, her macaroni and cheese and her collard greens were often requested. Her wit and compassionate nature endeared her to a large circle of friends. One of those friends said, “God blessed her with a sweet soul and a gentle, calming spirit.” Vikki was predeceased by her parents, William Prentice McCullough and Rosella Custard McCullough; grandmother Victoria Brown; and grandfather William P. McCullough. She is survived by siblings Melvin (Jerri) McCullough and Alicia McCullough of Charlotte; Prentice “Macky” (Catherine) McCullough of Carrollton, GA; Helen McCullough (Bradley) Allen of Columbus, OH; Allen (Karen) McCullough of West Lafayette, IN; aunts, uncles and a host of cousins; best friend Gail Deavers Reed; loving godchildren, and many friends. Due to health concerns because of COVID-19, the family encourages friends to livestream the service at alexanderfunerals.com. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Ms. McCullough’s name may be made to Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina, or Marizetta Kerry Child Development Center at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Charlotte, or a charity of your choice.
