Marcus Arthur Fewell, 21, of Harrisburg, North Carolina, departed this world unexpectedly on January 14th. Marcus was a cherished son, brother, nephew, cousin, and friend. His memory will live on in our hearts through his many accomplishments and his kind, adventurous spirit.
Born on January 15, 2003, in Charlotte, North Carolina, Marcus was the eldest son of Arthur and Kimberly Fewell and a loving brother to Malcolm Fewell. Marcus was a senior at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, majoring in Information Science, where he was known for his academic excellence and dedication.
Marcus's love for the water began at an early age. He started swimming at the age of 6. He swam competitively in 3 teams, The Abbington Gators, Sailfish Aquatics, and later became the captain of the swim team at Hickory Ridge High School in the 10th grade. His leadership and talent in swimming were admired by many.
At the age of 12, Marcus earned his black belt in karate, demonstrating his discipline and determination. That same year, he had the incredible opportunity to travel to Australia with the People-to-People International Student Organization, where he volunteered at a zoo and participated in environmental clean-up efforts.
Marcus's academic journey was marked by his acceptance into the prestigious North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics in Durham, where he attended for his 11th and 12th grade years, graduating in the Spring of 2021. His thirst for knowledge and experiences led him to study abroad this past summer, spending 6 weeks at Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea, where he studied genetics and art. During his time abroad, Marcus took the opportunity to visit Japan.
His favorite time attending Greater Galilee was being a part of Mrs. Josephine McKissick’s Sunday school class.
Marcus is survived by his loving parents, Arthur and Kimberly, his brother, Malcolm, his maternal grandparents, Hezekiah and Doris Chisholm, his paternal grandparents, Bill and Donna Butler, his uncle, Dr. Keith Chisholm, his first cousins, Kennedy and Karsyn Chisholm, his aunt Lisa Robinson and first cousin Joshua Robinson.
Marcus’s light shone brightly and touched many lives. Though he was taken from us too soon, his spirit and memory will continue to inspire and guide us. Rest in peace, dear Marcus.
