Margaret Miller Davis Holmes was born on July 20, 1951, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to Hugh Sr. and Addie Lee Davis. As the 5th of 7 children, Margaret was an avid learner and reader. During her early years, Margaret was the adventurous, inquisitive, and fearless sister and daughter. She excelled in school and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire with a Bachelor of Science in speech pathology in 1972. Margaret also completed the coursework for her Master's in Business Administration from Baker College in 1997.
Margaret brought joy to any room she entered. Margaret could talk to anyone and enjoyed connecting with people through book clubs, culinary pursuits, recreational activities, and philanthropic endeavors. Margaret was a free spirit and a force of nature. She enjoyed listening to music, traveling, cooking, knitting, doing puzzles, and staying busy. She also had an incredible love for giraffes and Courvoisier.
However, her favorite pastime was spending time with family. She was a dedicated and loving mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, godmother, and friend. Margaret had an amazing gift of making everyone feel like they were special, but she also would not hesitate to "correct" you or "set you straight" when necessary. In her retirement, Margaret was a patient advocate and a tireless champion for social causes impacting youth and women.
In her professional capacity Margaret served as the Associate Director for the Department of Surgery at the University of Michigan and the COO of the OB/Gynecological Department at Wayne State University. Margaret was also the COO for Planned Parenthood of Michigan before her retirement. Margaret was a role model and businesswoman who inspired excellence in everyone she knew.
Margaret passed away unexpectedly on Friday, August 13, 2021, in Charlotte, North Carolina. She is survived by her son Damon Holmes (Lucinda) of Cleveland, Ohio, her daughter Regina Holmes Tyre (DeJuan) of Evans, Georgia, and her grandchildren Katrell, Khamari, Kavon, and Kahlil.
