Marjorie Anne Ireland

d. December 24, 2020

Marjorie Anne Nix Ireland transitioned into eternal rest on Thursday, December 24th, 2020. Margie will be remembered as a faithful Christian, spiritual mentor, gifted and creative teacher, seamstress, artist, encourager, motivator, trusted friend and confidant, devoted and cherished wife, beloved mother, grandmother, and sister with a radiant, compassionate personality. She tirelessly gave and gave and gave—constantly sacrificing and thinking of others. Born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee, to parents John Moses Holman and Elnora Perkins Holman, Margie lived a life exemplified by faith. She was baptized into Christ at a young age. Her mother often said that, “if Anne would have been a man she would have been a preacher.” She wanted everyone she met to come to know the Lord in whom she put her trust. She graduated from Pearl High School, and then went on to graduate from Tennessee State University, majoring in Elementary Education and Sociology. As a teacher she was blessed with the opportunity to teach students in schools both in Asia and North America, including: Bible schools in the Philippines, Schrader Lane Childcare Center, Seoul International Academy in Seoul, Korea, and Manassas Christian School in Manassas, Virginia. As an educator she was known for her rigorous standards, and her unique ability to simplify complicated math concepts to “make math fun”. Students walked into her elaborately decorated classrooms where they knew they were valued and loved. Her students participated in elaborate performances for which she both choreographed and designed costumes. She also had special expertise in teaching her students the writing process. Margie was married to her high school sweetheart, Lt. Colonel Paul W. Nix Sr., for over 42 years. They were blessed with 4 children: Veronica, Paul, Derrick, and Tiffany. Their military career took them to many places across the world. They were faithful members of many congregations of Churches of Christ across the United States, Korea, and the Philippines. She was also blessed to serve as an Elder’s wife at the Dale City Church of Christ in Woodbridge Virginia. In this capacity, she worked in several different ministries, including: Evangelism, Eastern Regional Leadership Training for Christ, Vacation Bible School, Bible School teacher, Ladies Day Speaker, Visitation and Restoration ministry and mission work. She encouraged Christians daily and truly answered the great Commission to go into all the world and teach the gospel. After the death of both of their spouses to cancer, she was blessed to find love again and marry William Henry Ireland. This union was blessed with their vibrant, intelligent, precious daughter Destiny. As a family they traveled, singing together, sharing God’s love with those they met, selflessly devoted to service, generosity, and hospitality. They were faithful members of Archdale Church of Christ in Charlotte, North Carolina. Margie was preceded in death by parents: Elnora and John Holman; siblings J. L. Holman, Austin Holman, Carl Holman, Barbara Jean Coleman, David Holman, and Eugene Holman. She will be deeply missed by her devoted and cherished husband, William Henry Ireland; loving children: Dr. Veronica (Dr. William) Weston, Jr., Paul (Sherrie) Nix, Jr., Derrick (Angel) Nix, Tiffany (Bruce) Williams, Jr., and Destiny Ireland; siblings: Frances Dunn, John Elliott, Raymond (Yona) Holman, Carolyn Bradley, Shirley (Lloyd) Gray; devoted cousins: Robert Potter, Juanita Owens, and Patricia Johnson and a host of loving nieces, nephews, many other relatives, dear church members and friends. She was lovingly referred to as Grandma, Mama Sweet Sweet, Me Mommy, and Grand Mommy by her precious grandchildren: Antonyo, Correy, William “Trey”, Derrick “DJ”, Paul William, Courtney Anne, Amy Lauren, Maria Janae, and Sean; Grand dog, Diego. Due to the pandemic, a private funeral service and burial will be held with a public memorial at a future date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Scholar Athletics Foundation, 4348 A Triple Crown Drive, Concord, NC 28027 which will be used to establish a trust fund for her daughter, Destiny Ireland, and to create a lasting memorial tribute in Margie’s honor.
