Marvin Lee Woods, age 94, was called home to be with the Lord on October 15, 2015 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, N.C. He was born on May 31, 1921 in Blacksburg, S.C. Marvin was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He served his country during World War II in the Pacific Theater as a member of the United States Army. After attending two years at Friendship College, Marvin and his wife Bessie moved to Charlotte in 1949. Marvin found employment as a mechanic at Charlotte Coach Lines and worked there for many years until his retirement. He was a member of Tryon Masonic Lodge #8 in Shelby and also served his community as a member and past treasurer of the Reid Park Neighborhood Association.
Marvin was a loyal member of Gethsemane Baptist Church in Charlotte for over fifty years. He modeled many admirable qualities for his family and friends, including honesty, integrity, spirituality, loyalty, and unconditional love.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Bessie Rhea Turner Woods.
Marvin is survived by three children: daughter Cynthia Woods, sons Kelvin Woods, and Gregory Woods (Mary), three grandchildren: Demarcus Connor, Angeline Woods, and Gregory Woods, Jr. and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
There will be a family visitation at Alexander Funeral Home, 1424 Statesville Avenue, Charlotte, N.C. on Wednesday, October 21, 2015, from 7:00 to 8:00 pm. His funeral Service will be held at Shoal Creek Baptist Church, 2707 Shoal Creek Church Road, Shelby, N.C. on Thursday, Oct. 22, 2015 at 1:00 pm. Pastor Michael Issac will be officiating.
