Mary Mackey Brown, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, entered into eternal rest on February 9, 2026. She was born on July 22, 1946, in Lancaster, South Carolina, to the late Eulese and Lois Mackey.
Mary was raised in Charlotte, North Carolina, where she graduated from Second Ward High School in1964. She later attended Central Piedmont Community College, where she graduated in 1972.
On January 23, 1964, Mary married the love of her life, Artis Brown, with whom she shared a wonderfuland devoted marriage. Together, they built a loving home centered around faith, family, and kindness.Mary dedicated more than 30 years of her life to the healthcare profession, serving in multiple rolesincluding Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) with the Charlotte Mecklenburg Hospital Authority, HealthRecord Clerk, and later Radiology Administrator with Nalle Clinic/Presbyterian Healthcare. Her lastfull-time position was as a Patient Access Specialist with Novant Health Presbyterian Imaging Center,where she retired in 2012. Following retirement, Mary continued to serve her community through part-timework with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System at Steele Creek Elementary School as a CafeteriaMonitor, where she enjoyed working with children until her health declined.
A proud and resilient cancer survivor, Mary’s strength and faith guided her through many healthchallenges, yet she continued to inspire all who knew her with her courage, grace, and radiant spirit.Mary was a lifelong, faithful member of St. Paul Baptist Church in Charlotte, North Carolina, where she was baptized as a young girl. She served faithfully in multiple ministries, including the Senior Usher Board, Leader of the Junior Ushers, and as an active member of the Young Adult Ministry, Rose ofSharon, Ministry Ambassador, Honey Bees Group, Senior Ministry, and the Distinguished Ladies Group.Outside of her professional and church life, Mary found joy in volunteering within her community, traveling, fellowshipping with church groups, and cheering on her favorite football team, the Carolina Panthers. She will always be remembered for her sweet and loving nature, beautiful smile, joyful laughter, and warm heart. She delighted in watching sports with her husband and spending time with her family.
Mary is survived by her devoted husband, Artis Brown; her loving daughter, Katura Brown of Washington,D.C.; two cherished grandchildren, Kendall Johnson and Corey Johnson, both of Baltimore, Maryland;and her siblings Donald Mackey (Delcine), Kenneth Mackey (Alma), and Sharon Mackey. She waspreceded in death by her parents, Eulese and Lois Mackey, and her beloved brother, Marvin Mackey.Mary touched countless lives through her faith, compassion, and service. Her legacy will continue to liveon in the hearts of those who knew and loved her
