She was born in Charlotte, North Carolina and was the daughter of the late Isaac Allen and Ara Lee White. Mary graduated from York Road High School, Charlotte, North Carolina, “Class of 1966.” She completed courses in Business Administration at C.P.C.C. She worked in retail stores, pulling orders for converse shoes, was a shipping clerk for Zagora Gear Company and Quality Control Inspector for United Coating. In her younger years Mary served as Treasurer for Christian Workers Chapter #301 Order of the Eastern Stars, P.H.A., She was also a Loyal Lady of the Golden Circle Zack Alexander Assembly #35 P.H.A., Charlotte, North Carolina. Mary was hard working, strong, loving and gentle. She loved her family and was deeply devoted to them, especially her sister Sandra whom she and Raiford raised for forty six years with love and commitment. Mary married the love of her life, Raiford Harris in 1968. She grew up in Gethsemane Baptist Church and joined at an early age. She attended Reeder Memorial Baptist Church before her health declined. She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Luther Marcquel Harris. Mary leaves to cherish precious memories to her husband, Raiford Harris; son, Reginald Leonard Harris (Mary Ann); daughter, Rhonda H. Simmons (Alvin); sister, Sandra London; one grandson, Reginald L. Gray (Shonte); one Special (Godson), Sean Sturdivant; three brother-in-laws; four sister-in-laws; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. *************************** “Poem” We trust that beyond absence there is presence.
