Mrs. Mattie Drucilla Mason Coleman, 83, of Charlotte, passed away on December 2, 2013, at Carolinas Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 9, 2013, at 1:00 p.m., at Greater Mount Sinai Baptist Church, 1243 West Boulevard, Charlotte. Reverend George Cook, Jr. will officiate.
Visitaion will precede the services, from noon until 1p.m. at the church. Interment will be at York Memorial Park.
Mrs. Coleman, daughter of the late Joseph Wilson and Mattie Tate Mason, was born on February 21, 1930, in Charlotte. She was married to the late James Coleman, Sr., who preceded her in death in 1965. She worked in the home raising her seven children until she started her career as a cook at the YWCA of Charlotte, from which she retired in 1994. Mrs. Coleman was affectionately known as "Ma" to her family, friends, and the many children she helped to raise. She is survived by her seven children, James Earl Coleman Jr. (Doriane) of Durham, North Carolina, and Shirley Coleman Lowrance, Carolyn Coleman Clinton, Doris McGill (Wayne), Ronald Coleman Sr. (Toni), Joyce Coleman, and Leonard Coleman (Angela), all of Charlotte, North Carolina; one sister, Barbara Jean Hendrix, and one brother, Joe Wilson Jr. both of Charlotte, North Carolina; eighteen grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews; and countless friends.
She will live forever by her example and in their memories.
