MICHAEL A. WASHINGTON was born in Columbia, South Carolina on July 22,
1980, to Bobby and Cleo Washington. He transitioned from this earthly life on Sunday,
September 3, 2023, in Frederick, Maryland.
Michael graduated from Tabb High in Yorktown, Virginia where he played high school football
and basketball, but his true passion was track. He lettered in high school track and was the 100-
and 200-Meter State Champion. He accepted a 4-year scholarship to James Madison University
in Harrisburg Virginia where he received a Bachelor of Applied Arts degree in Computer
Information Systems. He also received a certificate in Cyber Foundations (2018) and cyber-
security (2019) at Fayetteville State University, Fayetteville, North Carolina.
Following graduation from college Michael was employed as a Program Support Assistant for
the YMCA in Charlotte. He relocated to Fayetteville, North Carolina transitioning into the
federal government service. He worked for the Department of the Army as a civil service
employee for 11+ years continuing to climb the ranks at Fort Bragg (Liberty), Fayetteville, North
Carolina, Carlisle Barracks, Carlisle, Pennsylvania, and Fort Dietrich, Frederick Maryland.
An Air Force “brat,” Michael traveled extensively with his parents and sister visiting many
European countries and most of the United States. From an early age he attended church with his
family and was active in Sunday School.
Michael looked forward each year to joining college friends and visiting the mountains of
Virginia, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania, discussing social issues of the day, watching movies
and sports, staying connected daily with special friends, taking quiet walks, playing pickleball
and always laughing along the way.
Preceding Michael in death were his grandparents, Charles and Maggie Washington and Aaron
and Mary Eliza Henry.
To cherish the memories that death can never steal are his parents, Bobby and Cleo Washington
of Charlotte, NC; sister, Chonda E. Washington of Charlotte, NC; aunts, Mozell Cromartie of
Kelly, NC, Verlene Cromartie of Charlotte, NC, Marilyn Sykes of Dale City, VA, Martha
