Mrs. Nancy Stone Carter passed peacefully on October 2, 2015 in Charlotte, North Carolina at the age of 64.
Nancy is survived by her mother, Mrs. Priscilla B. Stone of Charlotte, NC; her devoted husband Luther Carter, Jr.; her only loving son, Brandon Donnell Carter; two brothers, Larry Stone (Gwen) and Harry Stone (Joanne); two sister-in-laws, Marie J. Carter Calvin (Lovell) and Margaret Carter; one brother-in-law, Denton Carter, Sr. (Donna); four nieces, Tiffany Stone-Davis, Dana N. Carter-Coates (Michael), Josclyn Spicer- Molina, and Jazmin Carter; five nephews, Denton Carter, Jr. (Alecia), Heath Stone, Pierre, Arnold and Tyrone Stone -Patterson; her special and close friends Lynda Kay Foster and Kathleen Hunter; and a host of family and friends. She is preceded in death by her father Vernon Dwight Stone and her sister Kiter Stone-Patterson.
Nancy was born on July 23, 1951 in Lenior, North Carolina. She graduated from Lenoir High School in 1969. She continued her education at North Carolina Central University (NCCU) where she received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education in 1973. She continued to educational growth when she received her Master of Arts Degree in Education from NCCU in 1973.
Nancy married Luther, the love of her life in 1978 in York, South Carolina. Nancy began and ended her career as a Special Education Teacher at Alexander Graham Middle School for the Mecklenburg School District, Charlotte, North Carolina. Nancy retired from teaching in 2001. In June 1982, Nancy and Luther welcomed Brandon Donnell Carter into their home and raised him to be a caring and loving soul.
Nancy enjoyed life, always wanting to celebrate life with family and friends. A true supporter of Historical Black Colleges and Universities which was evident by her support of North Carolina Central and Johnson C. Smith Universities. Homecoming football games for both schools were always on the agenda. She and Luther were regular participants of the CIAA Basketball tournament for more than 35 years. She enjoyed sports and the San Antonio Spurs has lost one of their most dedicated fans.
Her memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2015 at 11:00 am at Jane M. Smith Memorial Center (JCSU).
