Nathaniel Boyd, 95 of Charlotte passed on Friday, March 18, 2016, at Charlotte’s Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center. He was born July 17, 1920, to the late Reverend Johnny and Elvira Osborne Boyd and married for fifty-four years to the late Hazel Neely Boyd. He was a United States Army veteran and a member of the Walls Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church during his youth.
Everyone who met him quickly learned of his long career with Harris Teeter and his love for his Fleetwood Cadillacs. He was also known as a charismatic man who affectionately referred to females as “sweet things” and males as “hard rocks”. He lived life to its fullest and commented often that he had “no broken dreams and no regrets”.
Nathaniel is survived by brothers Roscoe Boyd of Winston Salem, NC, Eddie Boyd of Gaffney, SC and one brother-in-law, Reverend Benjamin Gaffney, Sr. of Gaffney, SC. His surviving sisters are Lillie B. Fuller of Spartanburg, SC, Thelma Boyd of Gastonia, NC, and Hettie Gaffney of Gaffney, SC. Also remaining are four sisters-in-law, Sarah Boyd and Dorothy Boyd of Gaffney, SC, Florence Barnes of Winston- Salem, NC and Johnsie “Bea” Nelson of Charlotte, NC and a devoted long-time care-giver, Margarine Thompson of Charlotte.
The family is receiving friends at the home of his sister, Thelma Hoyle at 1638 Windy Rush Drive Gastonia, NC 28054.
Guests are welcomed to the visitation on Wednesday, March 23rd from 1:30 – 2pm at Alexander Funeral Home, 1424 Statesville Ave, Charlotte, NC 28206 followed by the celebration of life service beginning at 2pm.
