Miss Ophelia Mae Johnson was born August 7, 1930, in Charlotte, NC. She departed her earthly life on Tuesday, December 23, 2025. She was one of five children born to the Late Robert Lee Johnson, Sr., and the Late Elizabeth Mills Johnson. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Curtis W. Johnson and Robert Lee Johnson, Jr., her sisters, Mrs. Rosa J. Jefferson and Queen Elizabeth Britto.
Ophelia was educated in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Despite her illness, she graduated from Second Ward High School in 1953. After graduation, she began working with her father in Uptown Charlotte in the Professional Building as an elevator operator. The Ivey Department Store hired her. The store moved from Uptown Charlotte to SouthPark Mall, and its name changed to Dillard's. She worked as a gift wrapper and retired after 30 years of service.
Ophelia liked planting flowers and vegetables in her yard. She joined the Senior Life Center, made several art pieces, and played with children. She enjoyed sports and was a fan of the Carolina Panthers, Duke University basketball team, and the Charlotte Hornets.
Ophelia was one of the family historians. Sharing all the information she could with her loved ones.
Ophelia leaves to cherish her memory: her daughter, Bonnie Johnson; her granddaughter, Nishonda Hicks; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
