She graduated from Calhoun Falls High School in 1959, where she played on the girls half-court basketball team. She moved to Charlotte after graduation. She earned a Medical Office Assistant diploma from Central Piedmont Community College. She worked for the Health Department in Charlotte for her entire career. She attended New St. John Baptist Church and shared her exceptional voice with the choir and the senior choir. She was known to delight her family with unexpected a cappella performances of old gospel music. She enjoyed thrift shopping, the 1950’s and decorating. Over the years she carefully curated an authentic mid-century tableau in her home that was beautiful and interesting. She collected figurines of black people working as well. Her annual Christmas Eve party, which actually celebrated her youngest daughter’s birthday, was anticipated, and enjoyed by family and friends each year. She enjoyed cooking for others and her specialties will be remembered by all. Arrangements are in the care of Alexander Funeral Service, 1424 Statesville Ave., Charlotte, NC. 28206. Family Visitation will be Thursday, August 25 at Alexander Funeral Home from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m., funeral service from 10:00-11:00 and graveside service immediately afterward at Oaklawn Cemetery.
