Ralph Pierre Hammond, 56, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on September 23rd, 2022. Ralph was
born in Newburgh, NY on June 24, 1966 and graduated from East Bladen High School in
Elizabethtown, NC. He was a consummate bachelor.
After graduating high school, Ralph joined the US Army, where he had the opportunity to serve
as a Combat Engineer. Later in life Ralph found his true passion, helping uplift, train and
motivate young men by mentoring hundreds of high school football players, who lovingly called
him “Coach Ralph” and was an integral part of the Mallard Creek High School Family.
He was survived by his children: Rashad Fletcher, Reyona Hammond, Kaylia Givens, Jullian
Ervin, Evan Leach, Zaire Crawford, and Mason Leach. His mother Ruth McFadgen and siblings:
Pamela Hammond, Kathy McKiver, Debbie Hammond, Yoko Lennon, Celestine Moore, Alma-
Jean Hammond, Walter Hammond Jr, Eunice Stewart, Bridgette White and his 7 bonus siblings.
He was predeceased by his father Walter Hammond, bonus father Joseph McFadgen and his son
Brian “BJ” Thompson.
He loved spending time with his family and friends, and traveling the world. Ralph was known
to be a selfless, “gentle giant” with a heart of gold. His spirit, legacy, and impact will forever live
on. Ralph touched the hearts of many and will be missed by all whose lives he encountered.
There will be a public viewing at Alexander Funeral Home, 1424 Statesville Ave, Charlotte NC
28206 on Friday October 7th between the hours of 11:00am - 5:30pm.
