Rawlin "Sylvester" Alexander

Rawlin Sylvester Alexander, “Sylvester” was born June 17th 1951 to the late Wilbert Alexander Sr. and Lela Alexander in Charlotte North Carolina.

He was a graduate of North Meck High School in Charlotte NC, Class of 1969. Upon graduation he joined the US Army. Sylvester served honorably in the United States Army where he was wounded in combat and received a Purple Heart and a Meritorious Unit Award for service in Vietnam. He later joined the Navy Special Forces and was honorably discharged. Sylvester’s dedication to Federal Service continued when serving 40 years as a letter carrier at USPS. Within that time, he became a distinguished officer in the union and the first Black president of Branch 70 of the National Association of Letter Carriers.

Sylvester passed away peacefully on January 1st 2024 after a long battle with cancer. He is proceeded in death by his siblings, Collie Alexander, Dorothy Alexander, Nathaniel Alexander, Frank Alexander, Calvin Alexander, and Carlette Alexander.

He leaves to cherish his memories his partner Debra Ledingham, one son, Marlon Alexander (Diana), three daughters, YaConda Baker, Leticia Jackson, Commander Janelle Terrell USN, grandchildren, Secolia, Jameel, Cameron, Caleb, Christopher, Cailee, and Lela. Three sisters, Joretha Cabbell of Mooresville NC, Barbra Carr (Orlando Jr.), and Wanda Duncan (Bobby), both of Charlotte NC. Three brothers, Wilbert Alexander, Wadell Alexander (Silvia), and Gary Alexander (Nicole), all of Charlotte NC. A special niece, Adriane Edwards (Nate), honorary grandchildren Ayania and Christian Edwards, along with a host of family and friends in both North Carolina and California.
