Mr. Gomillions funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at Alexander Funeal Home Chapel at 12noon. Visitation will be one hour prior. Burial will be private. Reginald “Reggie” DeVonde Gomillion was born on November 3, 1952 in Charlotte, NC to the late Johnnie James Gomillion and Artmae Jefferies Gomillion. Reggie went peacefully home on April 11, 2015 from his home after struggling with illnesses for the past three years. Reggie was a devoted husband of 33 years and considered the patriarch of his family. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Reggie attended the Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools where he graduated from West Mecklenburg. He left for Winston-Salem State University where he played football. From there he enlisted in the Army. Reggie was known as a “force” that always sought the truth in every aspect of his life. He constantly put others before himself. Most of his professional career was spent serving others empowering them to reach their goals. He loved working with children and adults in any capacity he could. He completed his Bachelor’s degree at Argosy University. Reggie’s proudest achievement was being honored by Winston Salem State University as a team player in the 1971 CIAA Championship Football Team. Reggie was able to attend this ceremony held September 20, 2014. Reggie leaves to cherish his memories a loving wife, Katrin Gomillion, a devoted sister, Christine Gomillion of the home, a concerned brother, Jason Gomillion of Wilmington, NC, two aunts and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. “Memories” We met each other some thirty-three years ago, You told me then, I’d be your wife. It took me about six weeks to realize, you were right. There have been struggles, big and small, We toughed them out, through it all. We began the final chapters these last seven years. Discovering you had a weak heart, brought on my fears. When Chris moved in, I questioned why. Now I know she helped us get by. Willie’s death was a wake-up call, From that point on, your health began to fall. I often told you, I’m here for you, If the truth is told, I did not know what to do. I was there until the end. Now my new life begins. Rest peacefully my “best” friend. By Katrin Pharr Gomillion
