Rev. Darrell Norman Obituary

November 15, 1957, to May 8, 2022

Rev. Darrell Arris Norman was born November 15 ^th , 1957, and departed this life to be with the Lord on May 8 ^th , 2022. Affectionally known as “Tonto” he was born in Athens, Ga to James Norman* and Louise Willingham Norman*. He completed high school at Clarke Central High School in Athens, GA, and received his bachelor’s degree at Georgia State University in the early 1980’s. He became a member of Omega Psi Fraternity at Georgia State University in 1980.

Rev. Norman worked for the city of Atlanta as a real estate acquisition professional doing major work for the Atlanta Hartsfield International Airport. He then became Vice President of a small Real Estate Acquisition Firm. He spent several years with the H. J. Russell & Company which specializes in construction and property management.

Rev. Norman was dearly beloved by his father, James “Shag” Norman. They were as close as brothers throughout his father’s life. Rev. Norman would consistently travel to Athens to attend Rocky Branch Baptist with his dad. Rev. Norman would eventually work his way to become the senior pastor of Rocky Branch. By the great example of his father, Rev Norman was a devoted and loving father to his own children. Rev. Norman took wonderful care of his father and was attentive to his every need until his last days.

Rev. Norman was fun-loving and adventurous. He always told the best stories and only needed a short stretch of road to launch into the most amazing tales. He was always joyful and knew how to make anyone feel special. He was a man of the people, a preacher of the Gospel, and was always known as a risk-taker. He encouraged his children to chase their dreams without worrying about failure. He knew that if they gave their best, that would be enough.

He is survived by his siblings Bessie Rowe (Wilbert Rowe), Marion Moore ( Fred Moore ), and James Norman. His beloved children Sharrell Norman Howard (Rev. Steven Howard), Langston Norman (Korenia Norman), Kevin Stark (Ramona Lindsey) and Alisa Stark Smith (Andrew Smith III), and his grandchildren Samuel Howard, Sydney Howard, Silas Howard, Kingston Norman, Rayana Stark, Quentavia Stark, Zakori Smith, Zyaire Smith, Zariah Smith, Nashayla Portrum, Kourtney Lindsay, Kevin Stark Jr, Kayvon Stark, and Keon Stark and a host of other family members, friends’ fraternity brothers .
