Elder John David Sinclair was born to the union of the late John B. Sinclair and the late Pauline Horne Sinclair in Wadesboro, North Carolina , (Anson County) on May 24th 1936. He attended Anson county public schools then relocated to Charlotte, North Carolina to pursue his passion in singing the gospel. While in Charlotte he united with the Pentecostal Temple COGIC ( Sherman Memorial) under the leadership of Bishop J.H. Sherman. During this union, Mr. Sinclair traveled, drove and sang for Bishop Sherman as one of his personal “ soloist”!
Mr. Sinclair continued to praise God with the voice that he was blessed with for years! Churches, Tent revivals and auditoriums were all blessed and encouraged by his high tenor voice until he felt the call of God to come up a little higher. Still serving and singing, Mr. Sinclair was ordained an Elder, by Bishop J. H. Sherman at Pentecostal Temple. Shortly thereafter he was called to pastor in Hendersonville North Carolina. After years of pastoring in Hendersonville and that season had ended, he was called to pastor in Oaksboro North Carolina.
He continued traveling, singing and even became the “Spiritual Adviser” for the singing group Joe Wilson and the Sons of Thunder! After several years, his ministry lead him to become an associate of the Greater Salem Church, under the leadership of Bishop Anthony L. Jinwright. There, he assisted Bishop Jinwright in ministry wherever necessary. After several years of service, Elder Sinclair was led to the White Hill A.M.E. Zion Church in York, South Carolina under the leadership of Elder W.O. Thompson where he continued in the faith until his health began to fail him.
Elder Sinclair enjoyed many things to name a few fishing, carving, making knives, playing his guitar and rebuilding things! His skills in those areas were undeniably incredible! He had a great love for his family and friends. He wanted the best for all of them.
He leaves to cherish his memories three sons: Vernice “Skip” ( Rita), Johnny (Donna) and Gary; one daughter, Cathy (Charles); twenty grandchildren; Farah, Ishasta, Virgil, Vernice, Sylvia, Stacey, James, Cory, Leslie, Latoya, Cassie, Celsey, Jonathan, Johnathan, Marquel, Wesley, Daphne, Alexis, Stephanie and Kevin; one greatgrandchild, Jayden; one brother, John V.
