Robert Cox

Obituary On Thursday, May 2nd, 2019, Robert Thomas Cox aka “Buck” transitioned to be with our Heavenly Father. Robert was born on June 18th, 1951 in Morven, NC (Anson County) to Pauline Little and the late Robert Lee Cox. The family moved to Charlotte in 1953. Robert joined First Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church at a young age. He attended several schools and graduated from West Charlotte High in 1969. He met Ruth Yvonne Walker and they went on to spend the next 40 years together until her passing in 2008. He worked at Duff-Norton for 40 years until his retirement. He also previously worked at Charlotte Memorial Hospital and part time at Centura Bank and Bimbo Bakeries. At First Mount Zion, he was a Trustee for many years before he served as Chairman, a member of the Men of Force Ministry, and the kitchen committee for many years before he took the reins as head cook. He also held additional leadership positions in the Steelworkers Union. Robert loved fishing, gardening, cooking and spending time with his family and friends especially his only grandchild, Desiraye. He was an asset to the community bringing his big smile and laughter in every space he was in. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 25 years, Ruth; father, Robert Lee Cox; brother, Todd Cox; grandmother, Carrie Little. He is survived by his daughters, Alethea Renee Cox and Demetria Latrice Cox-Thomas (Brandon); mother, Pauline Cox; sister, Sandra Shields; granddaughter, Desiraye Lavonne Thomas; sister-in-law, Mary Alice Walker all of Charlotte, NC and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
