Robert Gregory, Sr., was born in Mecklenburg County, Charlotte, NC, to the late Forest Gregory and Rudy Nixon. He was the first-born of seven children. Robert worked at McClure's Lumber Company in Charlotte, NC. He moved to Pleasantville, NJ, where he retired from the sanitation department. He moved back to Charlotte, NC, where he remained with family and wife until his departure. Robert attended Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. He attended St. Paul Baptist Church and sang in the choir with family members. He enjoyed playing the harmonica, planting vegetables, fishing, storytelling, dancing, and hunting. He is preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Pete, Cecil, Thelma, Marvis, Coup, and Thomas; and daughter, Antoinette Olivia Gregory. He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Nellie Young Gregory; children, Shirley Y. Tate, Robert Gregory, Jr., and Belinda Gregory Cureton; grandchildren, Kenneth Gregory, Nikki Barrow, Amanda Tate, Curtis Tate, Crystal Barnett, Edward Beatty, Angela Gregory Harris, Aprilla Gregory, and Shamara Austin; a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other family, and friends.
