Roberta Young Gibson was born on September 24, 1953, in Charlotte N.C. to the late Johnnie L. Young Sr. and Thelma Williams Young. Competed in her education at Olympic High School. Joined together in holy matrimony to the late Charles Gibson.
Roberta bravely moved to Atlanta, GA in 1977. She met the love of her life Chuck. They shared for many years their love of golf when he took her out to the course to play after surprising her with a set of clubs for her birthday. They also shared the love of music attending many concerts. Roberta was an avid reader and also loved many sports. Also, she always said their vacations to Aruba were always her favorite place to go. She traveled on vacation for 20 years with her brother Johnnie and his wife Yolanda. Roberta so enjoyed the weather, beaches, tranquility, people, and the beautiful island.
Her work life included a few jobs before landing a position at the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations in Marietta, GA. She had many positions at INPO that eventually led to becoming a manager. She retired from INPO in 2014 after 33 years. After retiring Roberta also enjoyed working for the Board of Elections at the polls. She worked hard to get voters registered because of her strong belief in our God given rights.
She was affectionately known by her family and friends as “Bert” and” Grandma Beach”. She came back to Charlotte to her home church Parkwood Institutional CME Church. She was raised and baptized at Williams Tabernacle CME Church which became Parkwood. Upon returning she became a member of the Board of Evangelism and then became a Stewardess. Roberta loved the Lord. She demonstrated her love for the Lord through her labor, dedication and commitment to his call to serve.
