Rogers Glover, Sr.

January 12, 1936 — March 21, 2014

Charlotte - Elder Rogers Glover, Sr., 78, affectionately known as, “Granddaddy” “Daddy”, “Papa” and “Mr. Glover”, transitioned to his heavenly home on Friday, March 21.  He now belongs to the ages and the great cloud of witnesses. He was a native of Allendale, South Carolina born to Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell Glover, Sr. and educated in the public school system of Fairfax County. At the age of eighteen, he dedicated his life to the Christian faith. Elder Glover was a devoted husband for fifty-four years to Mrs. Harriett Maurice Nail Glover, who transitioned on November 3, 2007. He can now rejoice as he joins her in heaven. To this union, they were the proud parents of six children.    Elder Glover was a devoted congregant of Seigle Avenue First Church of God (SAFCOG) for sixty years.  He faithfully served as Elder, Deacon, Trustee, Driver, SAFCOG Choir Member, SAFCOG Men’s Choir Member, Man of the Year, and Devotional Leader. He was a major benefactor to the church building fund. His love for music and spiritual exhortations will be forever remembered in the hearts of everyone blessed to hear him.  His ministry led many to Christ.    Elder Glover worked with great dedication, honor, and distinction fifty-four years for Mr. and Mrs. George Washington Baxter, Sr. Mutual dedication, love, and respect existed between Elder Glover and The Baxters. These qualities were apparent by all who were in their presence.   Elder Glover was a man of great vision and wisdom.  He had a keen sense of fashion and design, which he exhibited in his personal and home life.  He was a curator of fine items, antiques and clothing.  His great pleasures were entertaining, dining and witnessing about God’s grace. His talents were shared, over the years, with hundreds who found themselves at his residence for Sunday Dinners.  He had a God given talent to make everyone feel valued and comfortable in his presence.  His humor and gregarious nature drew everyone to him.  You never left his presence without a deposit from his well of wisdom.   Elder Glover’s parents, Mitchell and Sarah Green Glover, and siblings, Manzie Glover and Ulysee Glover preceeded him in death.  To cherish his  memories are his devoted children, Beverly Glover Logan (Larry), Pamela Glover Frazier (Sammie), Rogers Glover, Jr. (Amelia), all of Charlotte, NC, Gloria Glover Garner (Daryle) of Huntersville, NC, Alfred Glover, Sr. (Josette) of Jefferson, NC, and Alvin Glover, Sr. (LaDonna) of Raeford, NC; sisters Dorothy Drayton of Clinton, MD, Pauline Rivers of Allendale, SC, Bernie Glover Benton (Jerry) of Ridgeway, SC; brothers Mitchell Glover, II (Ida Mae) of Allendale, SC, Julius Glover (Ann) of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren Sylvia Glover, Maria Glover, Kyndra Frazier, Alvin Glover, Jr., Chanel Glover, Kaylan Frazier, Victoria Logan, Darylen Garner, Joel Garner, Alfred Glover, Jr., Olivia Glover; great grandchildren Julian Brown, Anthony Williams, Jaida Washington, Diamonique Glover, Diamond Moore, and Marcus Glover.  He is also survived by a special nephew, Michael Nail (Roslyn) of Charlotte, NC and his beloved sister-in-law, Beverly Ann Nail, of the home.   Elder Rogers Glover, Sr., was a great philanthropist to churches, charities, and individuals he loved.    Bequests may be made to Seigle Avenue First Church of God at P.O. Box 35096 Charlotte, NC 28235.  Flowers should be sent to Alexander Funeral Home, Charlotte N.C.   Services will be on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 (Quiet Hour 11 AM – Homegoing 12 Noon) at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, 3301 Beatties Ford Road, Charlotte, Rev. Daryle Garner officiating.  Burial will be in Forest Lawn – West.Family and friends will be received at 1426 Plumstead Road, Charlotte.
