Known for his side-cracking humor and skill as a carpenter and cement finisher, Samuel Sherrod Gregory passed on to home in glory on Saturday, November 27.
Samuel was born on March 29, 1963 in Derita, NC and delivered into this world by the family’s midwife, “Miss Alexander.” He was the 12 th of 16 children of Paul and Anna Gregory. He attended Derita Elementary School, Herbert Spaugh Junior High School and Harry P. Harding Senior High School where he had a short stint on the high school basketball team. After high school, he worked with his father in construction and continued in that trade until his death.
Those who loved him described him as straightforward, forgiving, smart, a loyal friend, kind-hearted, a serious comedian who used humor to deal with life’s stresses, protector, musical and uncommonly insightful.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley along with her three children; former wife Sherrin and their son Maurice (Rachelle) and daughters Cheri (Joseph) and Andrea (Andre); father Paul A. Gregory, brothers Paul G. Anderson and Joseph Lamar Gregory, sisters Lillian, Cheryl, Penny, Ollie (Cedric) Green, Catherine, Ruby, Rose, Pearl, Alamoth Gregory; several nieces, grand nieces and nephews.
