IN REFLECTION
Mrs. Susie Mae Clifton Glenn was born in Chester County, South Carolina on February 1, 1929. She was the daughter of the late John and Mamie Crawford Clifton. She departed this earthly life on July 5, 2025 at the Laurels of Chatham Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Pittsboro, North Carolina after a brief illness.
Susie grew up in Fort Lawn, South Carolina where she attended Chester County public schools and Emmett Scott High School in Rock Hill, South Carolina. She moved to Charlotte, North Carolina in 1953 after marrying Douglas Hall Glenn, Sr. She was an active member of the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church for over 65 years where she sang on the Hymn Choir, served as a missionary, and chaired the Women’s Day Program Committee for several years. She worked for many years at Wayne’s Supermarket and at TJ Maxx in Charlotte. She loved to garden and many of the plants and flowers she nurtured continue to grow and bloom at her home. During the past five years, she lived with her daughter and son-in-law in Shady Shores, Texas and, most recently, in Apex, North Carolina.
She was preceded in death by her husband of over 60 years, Douglas Glenn, Sr.; four children, Kenneth Clifton Glenn, William Ray Glenn, Janet Glenn Sifford, and Douglas “Chip” Glenn, Jr.; four brothers, Elmore Clifton, Frank Clifton, Hezekiah Clifton, and John Clifton; and two sisters, Viola Thorns and Martha Patton.
Susie Glenn is survived by a daughter, Joanne Glenn Woodard; a son-in-law, Harold Woodard; a sister, Beatrice Culp; three grandchildren, Adrian Sifford, Jaren Sifford Pompey; and Simone Dildy; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
