A daughter, a sister, an aunt, a niece, a cousin and a friend. Teresa Huey, 60, tragically passed away on Monday, August 16, 2021. Teresa was born on March 15, 1961 in Charlotte, North Carolina to Shirley and Marvin Tolbert.
Teresa Huey was a 1979 graduate of Olympic High, in Charlotte, NC. After High School, she obtained her real estate license and pursued a certificate in interior design. She loved to design and give advice on home décor. She spent several years working in administrative roles at Allison Erwin Company in Charlotte, NC. However, her adventurous nature propelled her to join the United States Marine Corps, where she proudly served her country domestically and abroad. While in the Marine Corps she had the honor of being a part of the Honor Guard Unit. When she finished serving in the Marine Corps, she wanted to continue to give back to her community and serve her city and county where she was born. She pursued an obtained an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice from Central Piedmont Community College. Teresa later joined the Mecklenburg County Security Police and then the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department where she retired in 2016 after over 25 years of duty.
As a member of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department she worked in The Charlie-1 District, Domestic Violence Unit, Assault with Deadly Weapon Unit and finally the Real Time Crimes Unit. She also served serval years as a member of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Honor Guard Unit.
Teresa never met a stranger. She was well known for her smile and calm demeanor. Her peers and supervisors have always spoken highly of her and the work ethic that she had. She loved encouraging the youth that she came in contact with and tried so hard to make a difference in their lives.
Teresa is survived by her Mother: Shirley Tolbert, Sister: Sylvia Baker (Brett), Life Partner: Michael Day and their fur babies: Pepper, Lucky and Cookie, Niece, Tecana Chesley (Mark), nephews, Trotti Simmons Jr. & Timothy Jacob Simmons (DeNaecia), six great nephews, Aunts: Avenelle Brooks (West), Cathy Hendricks, Gladys Hendricks, Peggy Brown (Michael), JoAnn Hendricks, and a host of loving cousins and friends.
