Mrs. Thelma M. Hunter was born May 5, 1932 in Derita, North Carolina to the late Samuel andRosella McCauley. On Thursday evening, June 27, 2019, Thelma quietly entered into the presence of theLord at Saturn Nursing Home.Thelma was a graduate of Torrence-Lytle High School and received further education fromCentral Piedmont Community College in Charlotte, NC where she received certification in EarlyChildhood Development and Education. She worked and retired from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schoolsystem and worked at various other companies such as Belk Service Center and Reeves Brothers.Her career endeavors and achievements include being a member of the Golden Hue Chapter#15 – PHA Order of the Eastern Star, member of Rameses Court #78 Daughters of Isis, and the Torrence-Lytle Alumni Association.After marriage, Thelma joined Rockwell A.M.E. Zion Church where over the years she served invarious capacities including: Church Secretary, Treasurer, Financial Secretary, Member of the MissionarySociety and the Senior Usher Board. She will be remembered for her faithful service, her love for othersand her beautiful smile.Thelma was one of eight children. She was preceded in death by her sisters Mrs. Mary Boyce,Mrs. Sarah M. Bartley, Mrs. Gladys McClellan, Mrs. Rosa Inez Grier, her brothers, Samuel McCauley, andCharlie McCauley, and her son Jeffrey Hunter.She leaves to cherish her memory and thoughtfulness her daughter Joyce Rucker of Atlanta, GA,her sister Frances Gaither (James I.) of Charlotte, NC; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Maggie McCauley; threegranddaughters, ShaRonda Strickland (Marc), Cristel Edwards (Korey), Lakisha Gaffney (Philip); six greatgrandchildren, Mikeala Morgan (Greg), Kristen Rucker, Kamryn Edwards, Kaelyn Edwards, KoreyEdwards, and Sofia Gaffney; nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of relatives and friends.
