Thomas E. Barrett Jr.

October 23, 1958 — April 24, 2020

Mr. Thomas Barrett Jr., the son of Thomas (Sadie) Edison Barrett, Sr., and the late Annette Barrett-Porter was born on October 23, 1958. He departed this life on Friday, April 24, 2020 in his home surrounded by the love of his family.Thomas Barrett Jr. was affectionately known as Timmy, Tommy but mostly BUB to those who were closest to him. Timmy was a lifelong resident of CT. He was educated in the Stamford Public Schools system. After completing his high school education, Thomas earned a commercial driver license through an accredited trucking school in the state of Delaware, because of that training he was able to develop a beneficial career. Some would say that Timmy was a visionary because while he had no problem driving trucks for a living he was sure that there was more he was purposed to do; a truth that he understood long before anyone else was able to see it. BUB spent 40 years truck driving, working at places like AMCE Carting, The Beverage Transportation Company and others. However, nothing quite spoke to his soul like his company, BUBSKIPRO A 10 B. CO. Thomas cultivated his entrepreneurial nature by founding a production company that specialized in photography and videography. BUB would shoot everything and anything; if you even mentioned an event he was there with his camera no questions asked! His business was just another way for him to explore the world around him. This career path was a perfect fit for Timmy because he would tell anyone willing to listen “The indoors are not for me, I need to be outside!”Timmy loved the outdoors. Living true to his personality, BUB lived adventurous until his illness would no longer allow him to explore. With glee he would describe his adventures, telling stories of friendly road trips filled with the descriptions of sights he had seen and the horse he finally got to ride. No one in the world loved fireworks more than him, it was joyous simply watching him eagerly await the explosive finale. Timmy looked like a kid in the candy store when the sky lit up in a colorful array. He could be found on the road on a nice day, not willing to miss any opportunity to ride his motorcycle. While he loved to be outdoors he did not mind being inside for church! Thomas grew up in Faith Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church, however, he later became a member of Walter’s Memorial AME Zion Church where he worshipped for over 15 years. He loved and believed in the Lord God and was gifted to bless God and His people with music. He enjoyed playing that Pearl Drum Set. In fact, he would say having the opportunity to be the drummer in a gospel quartet was his biggest blessing outside of his family. On video he once said “I first would like to Thank God for all that he has done for me and giving me the opportunity to be a member of talented and great groups, the Northern Gates & Holy Men Gospel Singers. I would like to thank all of my brothers for the wonderful memories… it was the best times of my life… And I do believe our music will live on forever!” He even enjoyed listening to other genres of music(R&B, Country, Jazz ect.); however, he had a particular affinity for ‘Let the Lord use him.’Timmy adored his family; any time with them was precious and he did what he could to create lasting memories with the ones he loved. On April 29, 1989 he married his loving wife, Catherine Barrett; the two celebrated 28 years of marriage. As a couple they nurtured and cared for 8 beautiful children. He never shied away from sharing how he felt and would even take to YouTube, from time to time, to express his love for his wife, children, grandchildren, extended family and even friends. He certainly enjoyed sports and would bond with his boys while watching the Knicks play basketball and the Cowboys play football. He could be found rooting for his teams win or lose, because for him it was just about spending quality time with his family. He had such a lighthearted personality and it showed through his humor; even his voicemail put a smile on your face it ALWAYS said “You have reached Thomas Barrett cellphone I’m on his hip and not on his lip! That’s why your talking to me so leave your name and number and he will get back to thee! God Bless.” That was such a BUB way of saying leave a message after the beep! Above all else, Thomas proved to everyone that knew his story that no matter the setbacks, disappointments or hurdles in life, you had to persevere and if you did success would be apart of your legacy too. He was predeceased by his mother Annette Barrett-Porter. He leaves to cherish is memory his father Thomas (Sadie) Edison Barrett, Sr., two sisters: Lisa Barrett and Debra Carnegie, both of Stamford. His wife of 28 years, Catherine Barrett, children; Natasha Martinez, Lashayla Hill, Thomas Barrett III, Clifford Barrett, Jessica Barrett, Corey Barrett and, Darius Barrett. His Grandchildren: Jules, Ever Demi, Saniya, Alana, Aubree, Mason, Destiny, Caylei, Carlie, Gabriella, and Autumn. As well as a host of cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, “brothers” he called dear friends.
