Uleen Cunningham Jordan, affectionately known as “Momma Jordan”, was born July 31, 1937 in Monroe, North Carolina to the late Pink and Mattie Cunningham. Her formative years were spent in the Charlotte Mecklenburg school system, after which she attended Central Piedmont Community College. Uleen had a genuine passion for children, leading her to be the proud owner of Uleen Jordan's Family Daycare for over 40 years! So many of those she took care of have become part of her extended family. Presently, those children are adults, and they recall fondly how she poured a wealth of knowledge into their lives.
Uleen was an excellent cook and had a green thumb for plants. Her hobbies were shopping, dining out, traveling, cooking, gardening, and most of all spending quality time with her husband of 71 years, Lawrence. She would always greet a stranger with a smile and the love of God. Uleen was an active member of Steele Creek A.M.E. Zion Church. She enjoyed singing on the Camp Meeting Choir and often led hymns: “I was glad when they said unto me let us go into the house of the Lord”. And she was certainly glad to participate and fellowship with her Sunday School Class. It was the highlight of her Sunday. Uleen also participated in the Circle of Friends.
Although, her earthly life has ended, her spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved her. She leaves to cherish loving memories: husband, Lawrence Jordan; three daughters, Mattie Jordan-Sims, Winter Haven FL, Lorraine Wheeler, Charlotte NC, and Fern Robertson (Trezvance) Charlotte NC; one son, Lawrence Jordan Jr., Charlotte NC; nine grandchildren;Mario and TaShawna Sims, Yah’dan, Badeea and Shalisha Wheeler, Kyle and Camille Robertson, Asia and DaMoni Jordan; bonus daughters, Jeanette Sterling, Deborah King, Shannon Johnson, and Dr. Deidre Mebane; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
