Vernon Clayton Jones Sr., aged 78, passed away peacefully on September 16, 2023,
surrounded by his loving family. He leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and devotion that
will be cherished for generations to come.
Vernon is survived by his beloved wife, Joan, who shared 58 wonderful years of marriage with
him. Their love was a shining example of commitment and partnership, a bond that served as
the cornerstone of their family.
He is remembered with deep affection by his three children: Vernon C. Jones Jr. (Sandra
Jones), Tarris X. Jones, and Kimberly N. Cooper (Gilbert Cooper II). Vernon was a loving and
dedicated father, always there with wisdom and guidance when it was needed most. His
children carry his values and warmth with them as a testament to his enduring influence. He
was also a father figure to a host of nieces, nephews, and community friends.
Vernon was also a cherished grandfather to five adoring grandchildren: Vernon C. Jones III,
Xavier J. Jones, Tony A. Alexander Jr., Marcus A. Jones, and Torrie S. Jones. He took immense
pride in watching them grow, sharing stories, laughter, and life lessons with each of them.
In his journey through life, Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, Willette and Jesse
Jones, who instilled in him the principles of hard work and resilience. He was also preceded by
his beloved sisters, Jacqueline Jones, and Willie Mae Jones, with whom he shared countless
memories and cherished moments.
Vernon Clayton Jones Sr. will be remembered not only for his role as a devoted husband, father,
and grandfather but also for his contributions to his community and his unwavering kindness
towards others. His legacy lives on through the lives he touched and the love he shared.
A memorial service to celebrate Vernon’s life will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2023 at
CN Jenkins Memorial Presbyterian Church. The family requests that flowers be sent to
Alexander Funeral Home, 1424 Statesville Avenue Charlotte 28206, in Vernon’s honor. The
family also extends many thanks to Davita Kidney Care and Novant Hospice.
As we say goodbye to Vernon Clayton Jones Sr., we hold in our hearts the memories of a life
well-lived and a love that will never fade. His spirit will continue to guide and inspire us,
reminding us to cherish the moments we have with our loved ones and to live each day with
love, grace, and purpose.
