Around noon, on Tuesday, July 9, 1957, Wilson Sr. and Mary Huntley Melton welcomed their youngest son, Vernon Lee, into the world. Lee (as he was simply known) was a character from that time until the closing of his eyes on Monday, January 4, 2021, peacefully at the home. Lee attended the public schools of Anson County, graduating from Bowman High School, class of 1976. Upon graduating high school, Lee worked a short while before enlisting in the US Army. His time in the US Army allowed him to travel the world, seeing and experiencing a variety of places. During his time in the army, Lee met and married his beloved wife, Catherine. After many years in the US Army, Sergeant Vernon Lee left with an Honorable Discharge, and together he and Cathy (as she was affectionately known) spent their remaining years together, until her untimely death in 2017. Vernon Lee was adored by many! His sense of humor was indeed one of a kind and can never be forgotten. Lee was proceeded in death by his parents, Wilson Sr., and Mary; his wife, Cathy; and brothers, Wilson Jr. and James. Left to cherish his memories are two children: Natacha (Keith) of Morven, NC, and Terry (Mariama) of Atlanta, GA; four grandchildren: Mianna, Kazhmiri, Isaiah, and Kenoah; three brothers: John of Morven, NC, Lee Bert of Polkton, NC, and Luther of Greensboro, NC; two sisters-in-law: Carretter of Polkton, NC, and Jody of Jeannette, PA; one aunt, Juanita Chapman of Greensboro, NC; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
