“I have fought the good fight, I finished the race, I have kept the faith.” II Timothy 4:7
Vincent Byron Chaplin, 63, transitioned from this earthly rim to eternity on
Saturday, September 21, 2024.
Vincent was born April 9, 1961, to Joe Chaplin, Jr. and the late Emma Louise
Wilson Chaplin in Omaha, Nebraska while Joe was stationed there in the military.
He was educated in the public schools of Florence County South Carolina and
graduated from Timmonsville High School in 1979. He attended his 45 th Class
Reunion just two weeks ago and was overjoyed to see his former classmates and
participate in the reunion weekend. Vincent excelled in high school and went on
to receive his Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from South
Carolina State University in Orangeburg, South Carolina.
At South Carolina State University, Vincent was a member of the Marching “101”
Band. He played the trombone and was inducted into the band fraternity, Kappa
Kappa Psi Fraternity, Inc. in spring of 1982. Over the years he has maintained
close contact with many of his bandmates and often connected with them at South
Carolina State University events. As a devoted and active alumnus of South
Carolina State University, Vincent always represented the University well. He was
an active member of The Queen City Bulldogs, the Charlotte Chapter of South
Carolina State University National Alumni Association. Helping to improve the
lives of young men and women through education at his renowned HBCU, was
extremely important to him.
Upon graduation from college, Vincent was employed with ESAB Corporation as
an Electrical Engineer. He worked in this capacity with ESAB for eight years.
Following his time at ESAB, Vincent would move on to become a Regional
Manager with ABB, Inc. for fifteen years.
Vincent and Carol first met when they were in high school. As time moved on,
they developed a special bond and were united in Holy Matrimony on June 3,
1989. Although they had no children of their own, they enjoyed a full life of
traveling, spending time with family and friends and being inspirations in the lives
of their nieces, nephews and many cousins.
Vincent accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Brockington Street
Church of God, Timmonsville, South Carolina and he later united with Lee Street
Church of God, Darlington, South Carolina. Along with his wife, Carol, Vincent
attended Friendship Baptist Church, Charlotte, North Carolina on a regular basis.
As Vincent developed health challenges, he continued to use his gifts and talents in
the community. He worked with “BEST,” which provides services during events at
Bank of America Stadium, and he served as a Precinct Chief Judge with the
Mecklenburg Board of Elections for several years.
Vincent was predeceased by his Momma, Emma Louise Wilson Chaplin; his sister,
Gwendolyn Bridgette; maternal grandparents, John and Julia Wilson and paternal
grandparents Joe and Lucille Chaplin.
