Lydia Virginia Moss Morrow was born April 12, 1925 (Easter Sunday) to Mary Alexander Moss and Robert Moss. She was the last living of their 12 children. Virginia departed this life on July 20 at Autumn Care of Cornelius. Virginia was grounded in her faith from early childhood and lived a life of kindness, service and grace.
Virginia grew up in Concord, North Carolina where she was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church and graduated from Logan High School. She spoke fondly of attending summer baseball games and church picnics and spending time with her sisters.
She married Cleophas Morrow in 1952 and they made their home in the Derita Community. At home, Virginia was a kind and engaged wife and mother who enjoyed sewing, flower gardening, reading and summer vacations with her family. She was active in her girls’ schools as a PTA member and volunteer. She also led a neighborhood 4-H group.
Virginia was a member of St Luke Missionary Baptist Church for more than 55 years. She was a founding leader of the church’s first food pantry as well as of The Seasoned Saints - the social/service ministry for seniors. Her service to St Luke also includes the Missionary Group, Vacation Bible School teacher and Sunday School teacher for Primary girls.
Virginia was a beloved wife, sister, mother, “Grandma”, mother-in-law, aunt and friend to many.
She was predeceased by her husband of 47 years, Cleophas Morrow in 2000. Virginia leaves to cherish her memory her daughters, Faye Morrow Bell (George) and Debbie Stokes (Eric); her grandchildren, Christopher Lamar, Danelle Latrice, LaTasha Nicole, LaToya Nashay, Erica Renee, Eric Lamar and Tyler Elizabeth; and one great granddaughter, Mariah Nevaeh.
We would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to her caregivers Cherry Dow, Barbara Smith and Veronica Faulkner. And we are grateful for the services of Hospice & Palliative Care Charlotte Region and Lake Norman.
