A Legacy of Love, Vivian Jean (Blackwell) Logan
Vivian Jean (Blackwell) Logan, age 82, of Charlotte, North Carolina, went to be with the Lord on March 29, 2026. She left this world peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, after a long and full life devoted to God, her family, and to the people whose lives she touched.
Vivian was born in Chester, Pennsylvania on May 26,1943 to the late Archie and Lillie Maude Blackwell. She was born second of eleven children. Vivian was preceded in death by three sisters: baby girl Geraldine Blackwell, Viola (Boss) Blackwell and Geraldine (Sister) Blackwell; two brothers: Archie Blackwell Jr. and Gordon Paul Blackwell and one grandson: Lee Ernest. Vivian, affectionately known as Jeannie or Nana, was educated in the Chester Upland School District.
On November 14,1964, she married the late Alfonso Carl (Fonny) Logan in Chester, Pennsylvania. They raised five children, Anthony Jerome, Ernest Andre, Jill LaJean, Dionne Lynette, and Kacey James. She poured her heart into raising her family, offering guidance, encouragement, and unconditional love.
Her service in church ministry began in Philadelphia, PA as member of the Jesus House, a street ministry, where she gave her life to the Lord in 1973. From there she was directed to lead a new branch of the Jesus House in Hartford, CT.
In 1976, Vivian moved from Pennsylvania to Hartford, Connecticut where she worked in the restaurant business (Hal’s Restaurant) for 14 years. Ultimately, she ventured out and opened her own family restaurant (Hosanna’s House), and a catering service business. In 1993, there was a call from God for her and her late husband, Fonny, to move to Charlotte, NC.
Once in Charlotte, Vivian immediately became a member of Victory Christian Center. She served in various parts of the ministry: Journey to Joy, New Members, Women’s Shelter, helped the Missions Department prepare home cooked meals for seniors and served as a “house parent” to various domestic and international students who would attend Victory Christian Center School.
Vivian will be remembered for her relationship with the Lord, her love for family and ministry to others. There wasn’t a person (friends, family or complete strangers) she would encounter without first asking “Honey, are you saved?” and then minister salvation to them. Her love was often shown in her cooking for others, especially her family, friends and even the unhoused on the streets in Charlotte.
Outside of her serving in church, in her early years, she enjoyed bowling and was part of a bowling league in Hartford, CT. She volunteered as an Election Poll Worker in Charlotte, NC. There wasn’t a family gathering where she didn’t initiate a Phase 10 card game tournament that would last into the wee hours of the morning. Above all, what she was most known for was her passion and love of cooking. She was almost never without her apron, a gentle reminder of the love she poured into every meal. She stayed ready to cook, comfort, and welcome anyone who stepped into her home.
Vivian will be lovingly remembered by her children: Anthony (Mechelle), Ernest, Jill (Otis), Dionne (Luis) and Kacey; her 14 grandchildren: Aisha(Melvin), Myisha(Javon), Anthony Jr., Jamie, Rashema, Robert, Reon, Aaron, Aalysa, Ashley, Ari, Ilaya, Daejah and Mya; and 12 great-grandchildren: Joshua, Alaisha, Amiya, Malik, KJ, Zion, Rion-Kacey, Za’Riah, Kailony, Emory, Kashmir, Ky’Aire and Kiyah; her four sisters: Mildred (Eddie) of Tampa, FL, Edith of Chester, PA, Elaine (Bruce) of Middletown, DE, Dinetta of Chester, PA; one brother: Nadim (Mu’mina) of Atlanta, GA; one Aunt: Marguerite Blackwell-Watson of Chester, PA and a host of her “favs” nieces and nephews, all of whom will carry forward her legacy of love and strength.
Vivian’s life was a testament to love, kindness, resilience, and devotion. Her memory will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew her.
2 CORINTHIANS 5:7-8
" For we walk by faith, not by sight. We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord."
