Woodrow Wilson Thompson, Jr., son of the late Woodrow Thompson, Sr. and Mary Herron, was born December 14, 1939, in Charlotte, North Carolina, the eldest of three brothers.
He was raised and attended school in the area, graduating from Plato Price High School.
He married the late Ola Jeannette Grier, a high school classmate, in 1961. Married for nearly 35 years, they raised two children. Woodrow generously supported his family through the years, with a substantial 20-year career at Eastern Airlines, and another 15 years with the Charlotte Mecklenburg School system, from which he retired.
Formerly a member of Mount Olive Presbyterian Church from his youth, Woodrow moved his membership to H.O. Graham Metropolitan United Presbyterian Church and served there as an ordained elder, the Chairperson of the Trustee Board, and a faithful choir member.
Lovingly known by various nicknames--Embug, Woody, Barry White, and Pop--he was a gifted musician, dancer and athlete, but he is best known as a silky-smooth crooner.
Woodrow also loved spending time with his family and friends. It was his delight to drum up a spontaneous cook-out with family, or take in a local baseball game with cousins and friends.
On March 29, 2022, he departed to meet his Heavenly Father, leaving behind his brother, Larry Thompson (Barbara), his children Joyce Harris, Donald Thompson, and Amanda Dance (Johnel), and his six grandchildren, LaQueshia Harris, Latonya Harris, Jessica Dance, Kaylin Dance, Daeja Thompson, and Laiah Dance. He had one great grandchild, Aubree Harris, as well. He certainly leaves behind a host of beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, other family, and friends.
