Margaret Akins

Mrs. Margaret Marie Harris Akins was born in Harrisburg, NC, on January 8 ^th , 1936, to Mr. and Mrs. Grady and Nina Harris. She was one of 12 children born to this union.

Margaret met her husband Donald Akins in Miami, FL, and they were married in 1959. They moved to California and there they were blessed with the birth of their only child, Donna Akins Howard.

Margaret worked as a Healthcare Nurse at San Francisco General Hospital and St. Francis Memorial Hospital, also in San Francisco.

Margaret was a life-long member of Bellefonte Presbyterian Church in Harrisburg, NC.

Through her life, Margaret had a passion for shopping at consignment stores as well as travelling, especially to San Francisco and parts of Texas. Her best friend was her sister, Helen B. Harris, you wouldn’t find one without the other, and if you picked a fight with one you picked a fight with both of them!

She was a Capricorn, a real person and very feisty. She would dress up now and then, but she was usually a casual dresser and she was always herself. She was a gentle giant who genuinely cared about people. She was an excellent mama and she will be missed.

Margaret was predeceased by both her parents, her husband Donald, as well as all eleven of her siblings.

Margaret is survived by her only child, Donna Howard; her grandchildren, Ashley J. Brockington and Donald C. Brockington III of Kansas City, MO, Tia A. Howard, Swane N. Howard and T’Airra A. Howard of Charlotte, NC; great-grandchildren, Kamari Adams, Jameze Hardy, Amani J. Brockington of Kansas City, MO, and Zariah A. McGlown of Charlotte, NC.
